'If you don't stand up for yourself, no one else will': retired Capt. Wilfred Bartlett
Wilfred asked me to write that down, and print it with his photo, which he was good enough to have taken in a SEA-NL cap. The 85-year-old retired skipper and sealer from Brighton, Notre Dame Bay — well-known for his letters, and rural opinions (particularly on the fishery) — dropped by SEA-NL's booth at the St. John's boat show this past Saturday (Nov. 20th).

Retired fishing Captain Wildred Bartlett.
Our conversation was all over the fishery map — from fishery leadership, both here in Newfoundland and Labrador and in Ottawa, to the state of various fish stocks.
Wildred's opinions are often dead on the money, with more fight in the 85-year-old than people half his age. (Cut from the same Gus Etchegary cloth, you might say.)
As for owner-operators standing up for themselves, from SEA-NL's perspective, we can make change WITH you, but not for you.
