Caplin quota off eastern/southern NL rolled over at 14,533 tonnes, 10% increase for Gulf
The 2022 caplin quota off Labrador and eastern Newfoundland (fishing zones 2J,3KL), and off the island's south coast (fishing zone 3Ps) has been set at 14,533 tonnes, the same as last year when the quota was cut by 25%. At the same time, DFO has increased the Gulf caplin quota (fishing zones 4RST) by 10% over 2021 to 10,225 tonnes.


The commercial fishery landed 102% of the total allowable catch (TAC) in 2J3KL last year — 13,945 tonnes of the 13,565-tonne TAC.
According to DFO science, environmental conditions were good for caplin last year in 2J3KL. This below graph is from the March 2022 caplin science update:
